Fluctuations in weight and growing older can cause the upper arms to have a drooping, sagging appearance. An arm lift, also known as brachioplasty, reduces excess skin and fat between the underarm and the elbow, reshapes the arm to result in smoother skin and contours, and results in a more toned and proportionate appearance.

Treatment depends on the Type of the problem.

Type-I:
Patients have a relative excess of fatty deposits in the upper arm but good tone and minimal skin laxity. These patients are candidates for a simple liposuction. The surgery can be done under local anesthesia, with fast recovery and limited side effects.

Type-II
Patients have excess fat and skin only near the axilla. Patients can be treated with the removal of a vertical ellipse, with the scar hidden in the armpit. Sometimes the combination with liposuction can give a better result.

Type-III
Patients have skin laxity on the entire upper arm. Excess fat deposits may be also present. Treatment consists of removal of the excess skin by using a horizontal scar from the elbow to the axilla. Scar can be placed either on the back of the arm or on the inside of the arm. Also this surgery can be combined with Liposuction for a better result.
